In summary, for your tourist visa application please:
1- download and fill in an application form
2- if you have been living in the UK for less than 2 years (also if you cannot find any utility bill from 2 years ago to proof that you have been living here for more than 2 years), download and fill in additional form. Please note that this way will take longer (up to 2 weeks!), so start as soon as you can.
3- if you have been resident in the UK for more than 2 years, provide ‘stamp of indefinite stay’ or two utility bills: one recent one and one from 2 years ago. Please see here for further explanation. This way is quicker (2-3 days).
3- have two recent identical passport-size photographs available
4- check if your passport is valid for a min of 190 days and has at least two blank pages left
5- have the correct visa fee available
6- go to one of the two India Visa Application Centers in London and submit your application:

Submission of Application: 0830 – 1430 Hrs
Passport pickup: 1300 – 1630 Hrs Monday-Friday
