Apocalyptic SF novel themed around used video games.

“The Phantom of Akihabara” is the story of a post-apocalyptic world where videogames are to blame for the sad state of society, with the thought that they do not create anything of productive value. Through the help of the Social Environment Health Bureau, any and all forms of otaku culture (people obsessed with anime, manga and video games) are banned, leaving the public only with bland mass-media entertainment. It’s an age of prohibition where videogames are put on trial instead of alcohol or drugs.

However, there is a small underground movement. One man specializes in the underground, fighting back one game at a time. He specializes in bringing the joy of videogames back to those that need it, amassing a collection of vintage arcade cabinets or making home visits for multiplayer bouts. While it may be a seedy world, it is one that many gamers crave.
