Hi Nannette and Ricardo,

Here is a work in progress of the perspective section. The image shows a preliminary design for the Watchtower and the inverted city above. I will continue to work on the language and clarity of the Augmented Reality city!

At the moment as I have really been focused on TS work I haven’t rendered out the other perspective yet – but I will post a draft when it is ready. So sorry!

Interesting project by Daniel Fernández Pascual:

“Modelled after a real-life ongoing raffle to win a house in the microstate of Andorra, held with the aim of liberating its current homeowners from an overwhelming debt, The Housing Act explores crowdsourcing as a relief strategy to finance the debt of households”.

There are more projects on his website that may be relevant to some of you…

See you tomorrow,

Nannette and Ricardo,

Recalling on what the jurors has told me on Monday I focused on the idea of ‘Terraforma’ as it has been something very important in my concept previously, which got a little bit lost later and I thought that if I manage to bring the idea back I would break from using the fishing village and tsunami as the only components that define my project. Therefore, I have done research into various ways of terraforming and by especially focusing on looking at more ‘permanent’ and more ‘fixed’ techniques. I also wanted to push myself to work on showing my research as that has been a problem.

In the first sheet, I am looking at various terraforming techniques from across cultures and times. I always pin point key concepts from each one. Then the other two sheets are focusing on permanent vs temporary (man-made vs nature made) terraforming where first is using a large platform structure such as the oil drilling platforms and the second if a mangrove forest which are placed in the beginning of beaches. I found the idea of mangrove forest from my research into tsunami prevention. It has a lot of environmental advantages – strengthens soil, improvements ecosystem, traps carbon.

Need to do sketches on the progressed design but I imagine it now more as a bridge from the sea (where the village would be) to the train station. So I would have several specific moments in my design: village on water, bridge, market underneath, connection to train station.

thank you

Machan – film by susiekinston

I met a lady from Sri lanka (who’s family are Dutch origin) who recommended for me to watch this film and I thought Id mention it to you all

Its called “Machan” – directed by  Uberto Pasolini, producer of The Full Monty and the screen writer is an award winning Sri Lankan lady called Ruwanthie De Chickera. It’s in Sinhalese and English with English subtitles.

It won all sorts of prizes and is an interesting take on life in the slums of Colombo and it is also very funny (believe it or not!)

I found this as a summary –

“Stanley is tired of life as a fruit seller in the perpetually unstable Sri Lankan city of Colombo. Faced with a lifetime of drudgery, his frequent get-rich-quick schemes have only succeeded in bringing his family to the verge of bankruptcy. But when by chance, he hears that there will be a handball tournament in Bavaria, Germany, an escape scheme hatches in his mind.

Despite not knowing anything about handball, Stanley coerces his pals into forming the first Sri Lankan National Handball Federation. An official invitation is sought, funding and visas applied for.

But as the fateful date with destiny draws ever closer, it becomes glaringly apparent that none of the would-be migrants has a coherent plan for achieving asylum in Germany…”

Here is a website with cad files of many cities, including Colombo.

It’s not too detailed unfortunately, but good enough as a start in the absence of a better map…
